MET 00506 (30x20cm plaster, pigment, wood 2025-2026)

Stone

MET 00506 (Meteorite Hills 00506) is an H3.4 chondrite weighing 301 grams, discovered in Antarctica in the year 2000.* The sides clearly show the fusion crust typical of meteorites. Embedded within the matrix — which is dark due to oxidized iron components — are visible chondrules**.

The word meteorite derives from the Ancient Greek metéōros, meaning »raised up« or »high in the air«. Before this term became widespread, meteorites were mostly referred to as meteor stones, aeroliths (»air stones«), or uranoliths (»sky stones«).

The parent body is called a meteoroid as long as it is still traveling through interplanetary space. Upon entering Earth's atmosphere, it creates a streak of light known as a meteor. The meteoroid either burns up in the atmosphere as a shooting star or survives to hit the ground as a meteorite.

*Found by the US ANSMET program (Antarctic Search for Meteorites).

Small, millimeter-sized silicate spheres (chondrules) are embedded within the dark rock matrix, which is colored by oxidized iron. These are among the oldest solid materials in our solar system.

Painting

The piece MET 00506 (30 × 20 cm, plaster, pigment, wood, 2025–2026) was inspired by the meteorite discovered in Antarctica in 2000.

Since 2025, my work has focused on stones historically viewed as divine signs: marked stones (ranging from cave paintings and engravings to graffiti on rock), solitary boulders, and prominent mountain peaks — or simply stones that fly through the air, trailing fire.

Throughout history, they have served as landmarks, ritual sites, and oracles or communicators across space and time,

influencing and guiding both the sacred and the cursed across cultures.
